Pilates-style training offered

IV Leader Staff, Feb. 26, 2004

The IVCC Wellness Committee and the Fitness Club have sponsored a new course at IVCC — Pilates-style training.
The training is now being offered in the upper gym through April 7. The cost is $3 per visit or $65 for unlimited visits. The money for the course is collected at the beginning of each session.
The times that the course will be offered is 12:15 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 4:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
The required materials include workout clothes and a Pilates or Yoga mat. Pilates-style training is similar to Yoga in that there is a lot of stretching involved; however, Pilates works on toning the body’s abdominal and lower back regions as well as the thighs, according to instructor Julie Sherbeyn.
Some other advantages to Pilates-style training include increased flexibility, coordination, posture, the toning of the muscles in the torso and thighs, stress relieving and increasing the body’s energy levels.
Some other events the Wellness Committee will sponsor in March are the “Wellness Lunchbox Series,” functioning with and without sleep. The group also will have a wellness recess by organizing a game of Ultimate Frisbee. On March 23, the IVCC Wellness Committee is planning a Health and Fitness Fair.
In April, the committee plans on holding another “Wellness Lunchbox Series” on self-defense and organizing a game of Kickball for April’s Wellness recess.
Contact Sherbeyn, Ext. 475, or stop in the Fitness Center in Building G for more specific details and times of these events.
