Christianson honored

Feb. 26, 2004

Diane Christianson, director of the Early Childhood Education program, was recently awarded the 2003-04 Illinois Valley Community College Faculty Excellence Award. She received the honor after being nominated by fellow IVCC employees and students.
“As the recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award, I am truly honored. IVCC has many outstanding and dedicated faculty whose mission and purpose is to serve the Illinois Valley community and facilitate new knowledge and experience to our student body,” said Christianson after learning of the recognition.
Christianson is a motivating instructor who carries a full load of courses and monitors two day care centers in the community, while also serving on many local and state organizations and boards. She has contributed greatly to her profession and the community since she began teaching at IVCC 13 years ago.
“Our community is very fortunate to have someone like Diane. Her program provides students with an occupation that pays back to the community in so many ways. The program shapes students into highly qualified day care providers, who establish high quality day care centers and, in return, nurture and care for our children, so they can grow into productive citizens,” responded IVCC Early Childhood instructor Jill Urban-Bollis after hearing of Christianson’s achievement.
Christianson received a degree in early childhood education from the University of North Dakota and continued graduate work at the University of Illinois, Illinois State University, Franklin University, and IVCC.
Christianson commented on her profession as well, “I learn from my students. It is exciting and rewarding to be teaching future teachers and caregivers.”
