Sing-Sing is true pop music
Underground Movements, By Neil Miller, Feb. 26, 2004
Melodically infectious lyrics matched with a lusciously serene voice and flowing guitar work that almost speaks to you is what makes Sing-Sing’s new EP, “Madame Sing Sing,” such an amazing collection of songs.
For first time listeners, this assembly of four tracks will only leave you wanting more.
Sing-Sing, comprised of vocalist Lisa O’Neill and former Lush guitarist/songwriter Emma Anderson, have definitely found their musical and artistic niche.
Emma’s guitar work is as hypnotic and entrancing as Lisa’s vocals and from the first chord, you’re hooked.
Speaking of hooks, these four songs are full of them and this gives any pop music lover enough reason to check this out.
As far as “the return of shoegaze”, you may as well count out Sing Sing. While Emma’s signature guitar style might seem like what was heard in Lush, the tone of these songs are nothing like anything the shoegaze era had to offer.
To put everything plainly, Sing Sing is what pop music should sound like.
