The Eagles softball team is currently tied with Blackhawk for the conference lead. The Eagles have an overall record of 28-4 and 16-2 at the conference-level at press time.

IVCC is also ranked third in their regional out of 17 community colleges, with play beginning this week.

A rumor that the team would have to forfeit several games because of an academically ineligible player is not true, according to coach Cory Tomasson. When the team played scrimmage games in Florida, during spring break, players that were ineligible academically were allowed to play because those games did not count on the team’s record.

In recent games, the Eagles have posted solid performances. When IVCC faced Highland on April 25, the Eagles kept their opponents scoreless. The IVCC women won the first game 4 - 0 and the second game 1 - 0.

Sophomore Shayh Moore won the game second for the Eagles by hitting a double, advancing on a bunt, and stealing home plate on a wild pitch.

“It felt fantastic,” the sophomore stated. “I secured our win. I was glad to help the team out.”

Kishwaukee was unable to win against IVCC on their home field on April 23. Gabe Wood threw a one-hitter in game one. Again, the Eagles kept their opponents scoreless in game one, winning 9-0. The Eagles won 12-3 in the second game.

“Everyone hit the ball well and we took advantage of some of their (Kishwaukee’s) mistakes,” stated Coach Cory Tomasson. “We played very well in the first game, but made some mistakes in game two. We need to make sure we play a little more cleanly, so we don’t give up unearned runs.”

The April 22 game against Carl Sandburg was rained out and is rescheduled for May 3.On both April 19 and 20, the IVCC women won doubleheaders against Sauk Valley.

The Eagles won 12-0 and 18-1 on April 20. The final scores on April 19 were 13-0 in both games.

“Everyone contributed in these games,” said Tomasson. “Our pitching, hitting, and fielding were solid.”
