The IVCC Eagles men’s and women’s basketball teams will move from NJCAA Division II to Division I for the 2002-2003 season.
“The move was made to get better recognition for our teams and out players,” said Athletic Director and men’s head basketball coach Mike Riley. “We fit very well into the Arrowhead Conference, and we are just trying to stay consistent with our conference,” Riley said.
Riley said another advantage is scheduling. Division I scheduling is mandatory, meaning that a Division I team has to play every other Division I team.
Division I status allows a team to offer student/athletes tuition, books fees and room and board. As a Division II school, IVCC had been allowed to offer tuition.
