A MARC OF EXCELLENCE COLUMN:  Cell phones ring my bell

By Marc Znaniecki

This past week, I attended the IVCC Wind Ensemble presentation and saw, "Murder by Numbers" at a local theatre.

The Wind Ensemble was for a class credit. I am not an overt music enthusiast. I did , however, realize that my instructor was quite correct when he said that listening to the real instruments was far more overwhelming to the ears than the stereo system we use in class to listen to music. The music had vibrant emotions, soothing melody and distractions.

I watched the movie sitting by my significant other. It was a really good movie. The sound system kept going in and out and buzzing, but it didn’t detract me from enjoying the movie’s plot or presentation. But I still didn’t enjoy it as much as I should have.

The only parallel between the Ensemble and the movie was they had a common flaw, a flaw that originated from the audiences.

Some slack-jawed-booger-eating-d***-faced-monkey-f***s who probably suck d*** for beer money didn’t have the common courtesy or depth of intellect to either turn off or set the silent ringers to their damn cell phones.

There is just something unpleasant about listening to good music with the abrasive interruption of an electronic Lone Ranger theme.

It is also just as distracting to understand dialogue within a movie when someone’s cell phone begins to chime.

I think cell phones are a great invention. They are great when you really have an important call to make or accept.

I think people should not carry cell phones into public presentations. Some people would argue that they just should not miss a call. Well, if the call is that damn important, perhaps they should be at home or anywhere else where they would not disturb others from having some slight moment of enjoyment in their lives.

The music presentation had thunderous booms and clangs and the movie did have gunfire in it, but I would have rather heard the discharge of a 9mm into the skulls of the stupid boneheads with ringing cell phones.

I believe there are times and places when cell phones should not be in use.

I think people need to be more courteous with their usage of cell phones. Otherwise, I predict that in the near future "Road-Rage" might have a little brother called "Cell-Rage."

If you are a responsible person with your cell phone, I applaud you in your efforts not to distract others.

If you are one of the inconsiderate jerks with a cell phone that disrupts the enjoyment for others, I hope you rot in hell.
