Two full time positions at IVCC have been filled in the last month, and five positions remain open.
A new English instructor has been hired to replace Jim Michael, who will
be retiring at the end of the semester. Replacing Michael is Joann Scholtes.
Scholtes received her M.A. and B.A. from Northwestern University and will receive her P.H.D. from Northern Illinois University in May.
She has two years of teaching experience, as a teaching assistant at NIU and part-time at Harper College.
A new coordinator for the Bridges Success program has also been hired. Allison Laurash will begin this 60-week position on May 7. This program is funded by the Business Employment Skills Team, and is for youth ages 14-18.
Laurashs job requires coordination all aspects of the program, collecting statistical data, and preparing and presenting reports and documentation.
Laurash currently works for the Center for Independent Living as a transition resources coordinator. She received her B.A. from Illinois State University and her Masters in Public Administration from the University of Illinois in Springfield.
Full time positions which remain open are for a library director, instructors in psychology, computer networking and wellness/physical education and a member of the learning technologies staff.
Jerry Corcoran, director of human resources, said a search committee is checking
references on top candidates for the library director before deciding how many people to interview.
Corcoran said the college board could be hiring psychology and computer networking instructors at their May 15 meeting.
At press time, Mary Prentice, chair of the social science and public service division, announced that she would be leaving IVCC in August to take a position as assistant professor in a new community college administration graduation program at New Mexico State University. The college board had not yet acted on her resignation.
