RACHEL BARTON CONCERT:

Internationally acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton will perform at 3 p.m. June 9 in the Cultural Centre. Her performance is a part of the Maud Powell Music Festival Series. Tickets, at $12 each, are available through the festival at 507 Lindberg Road, LaSalle.

SUMMER FLUTE RETREAT

The Fourth Annual Summer Flute Retreat is scheduled for June 23 - 29 on campus.

Teaching faculty include Gerald V. Carey, Sue Gillio, Cindi Isenhower, Angela Loring and Anne Badger, retreat accompanist. The participant recital will be 9:30 a.m. June 29 in the Cultural Centre.

The Flute Retreat provides flutists of all ages and abilities the opportunity to grow musically and to hear and learn new repertoire. Students may perform with two sections: Master Unit and Ensemble Unit.

Cost of the retreat is $250 which includes tuition and instructional materials, daily on-campus lunch and admission to all SFR activities and recitals including the Arts & Letters Series Recital at 7:30 p.m. June 25 and an informal performance at Starved Rock State Park at 7 p.m. June 28.

Students wishing to perform on the Master Unit, which will focus on solo flute literature, should send an audition tape or should audittion in person by appointment no later than June 15. Enrollment in the Master Unit is limited to 10.

The EnsembleUnit will focus on flute literature for small chamber groups such as trios and quartets and will feature specifics on tone, rhythm and balance. Enrollment is unlimited.

Additional time for all participants will emphasize “Efficient Warm-Up Procedures,” “Technique Classes,” “Flute Choir,” and a special segment demonstration of the 24 Little Melodious Studies of Marcel Moyse.

AS SEEN ON TV

The improvisational group, As Seen On TV, is performing at 8 p.m. May 18 at the Stage 212 theatre in LaSalle.

Co-producer and co-director Dave Roden said As Seen On TV combines improvisational scenes with storytelling and music to create unique and surprising results.

Tickets are $8.
