Perez and Lynch present at Tech Ed conference
IVCC instructors Dorene Perez and Rose Marie Lynch presented Using Technology to (More Than) MIMIC the World of Work at the TechEd Convention in Long Beach, Calif., Feb. 25-27. Perez and Lynchs presentation, which focused on IVCCs MIMIC program, was designated a best practices showcase, an event highlighting the best practices used in education.
Perez, a computer aided design and engineering instructor at IVCC for 14 years, was one of the originators of the colleges Making Industry Meaningful in College (MIMIC) project six years ago. Lynch, a journalism and English instructor at IVCC for over 30 years, serves as a team leader for Tech Prep.
She received the Illinois Professor of the Year award in 1999 and this week was named IVCCs Woman of the Year in conjunction with the colleges celebration of National Womens History Month. She serves as the advisor of the student newspaper, The IV Leader.
We were actually selected for two conferences - one in Chicago and California-but the one in Chicago was cancelled because of the events of Sept. 11, said Perez. We were also asked to exhibit our MIMIC program for a day.
It was the 20th time the MIMIC concept has been presented at different conferences and meetings.
The conference was very educational, said Perez. Our presentations were well attended and the audiences were enthusiastic.
MIMIC teams students from electronics, engineering design, and various business fields in companies to select, design, manufacture, market and sell their products.
A Tech Prep sponsored project, MIMIC integrates technology not only in the students fields, but also into the practice of teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
The Long Beach conference provided a forum for over 5,000 education and business leaders to expand their knowledge about technology.
