IVCC students who are parents of children up to 8 years old may qualify for financial assistance under a new federal grant entitled Parents in Partnership.

Financial assistance with childcare fees, parent-child activity kits and additions to the Parent-Teacher Resource Center are benefits of this four-year grant, worth $10,000 per year.

Students who have children enrolled at the Early Childhood Education Center may be eligible for assistance with fees for the center. The amount of assistance is determined based on a sliding fee scale. Parents are asked to submit their two most recent pay stubs to the center director to document eligibility.

The Parent-Teacher Resource Center is open daily. Located in Ag 102, on the east campus, the resource center will have books and materials relating to topics of parental interest. A small children's library also is housed at the Parent-Teacher Resource Center.

Activity kits will soon be available for checkout. Students in the Early Childhood Education program will design and construct the educational kits, which will be available to any IVCC parent.

Parents who participate in the PIP program will be awarded points based on the activities they have chosen. Parents can accumulate the points to "purchase" items for their families. The parent must use a PIP card to collect the signatures of the individuals supervising the educational activities. Then, the card can be presented to the center director and traded for books, games or educational toys.

For information on this program, call the center at 224-0302.
