Earlier this Spring, IVCC was forced to cut its budget another three percent for the 2002-2003 school year.

At the Governor’s State address, Gov. George Ryan announced an additional three percent cut on top of the two percent cut that was made late last year.

Frank Papke, Vice President of Business Services, reported that this three percent cut roughly results in an $117,000 loss in revenue for IVCC during the 2003 fiscal year. The two percent from this years budget resulted in a $80,000 loss.

Added to the three percent cut for next year the total loss to the college is roughly $197,000.

Dr. Jean Goodnow, president of the college, met with her cabinet earlier this month to discuss strategies for making cuts for next year’s budget. Some open positions will not be filled due to these cuts.

“No new staff will be hired,” Goodnow said. “All resignations and retirement positions will be reviewed carefully before being recommended to the Board.”

She said the Board will also look at contractual services, supplies, conferences and meetings, fixed charges and equipment. Goodnow said the college administrators will be asked to look at additional ways to reduces expenditures while trying to explore revenue sources.

“The administration may also explore with the Board the possibility of a tuition increase,” said Goodnow.

“We do not anticipate any further cuts for this year in FY 02,” said Goodnow.

At the time the original cut was announced in the Fall of 2001, Goodnow had predicted that more cuts would be made.
