$#@$   &  GIGGLES COLUMN:  Religion - when are we going too far?

Why are some people so insistent on trying to shove their religious beliefs onto people who don’t want to hear it?

This happened to me about a week ago when I was sitting in the cafeteria having lunch with friends.

One of us brought up the subject of religion and someone who was walking by butted into our conversation and tried to push their beliefs on us. This person went so far as to hand out religious pamphlets.

I am a Catholic and I have friends from different religious backgrounds, but I don’t try to change their beliefs or tell them that their beliefs are wrong.

Growing up, I was taught to accept people for who they are and not to judge them based on their race, religion, or sexual orientation. I love my friends for who they are, not for what church they attend.

I was taught that going so far as to change someone’s religious beliefs, just because they differ from yours, is crossing the line. And adhering to a certain religion doesn’t make you better than anyone else.

God created everyone and we are all equal in his eyes. God doesn’t discriminate against anyone so what gives us the right to discriminate against each other?
