Whether it’s a stroll through the park or changing in the locker room, there seems to be a fascination in commercials as to what type of underwear Michael Jordan wears.

The IV Leader polled students, male and female, to see what style(s) they wear. The poll included 237 students, 131 men and 106 women.

Of the women polled, 60 percent selected wearing bikinis, 40 percent for thongs, 18 percent for briefs, 11 percent for other/none and .01 percent for boxers.

A 20 year-old woman expressed her opinion on thongs, “Why wear something that sticks up your butt all day? Why use thongs as a source of toilet paper; we’d all be picking our butts all day long.”

Of the men polled, 66 percent selected wearing boxers, 36 percent for briefs, .05 percent for other/none .02 percent for thongs and .01 percent for boxer-briefs.

Seven local retailers reported the most popular styles in their stores:

For “younger” women, thongs ranked for 66 percent of popularity and 33 percent for bikinis and 1 percent high-cut briefs.

For “older” women, briefs dominated in the survey as no others even ranked.

For “younger” men, boxers ranked at 60 percent while boxer-briefs ranked for 40 percent.

For “older” men, boxer-briefs ranked at 60 percent and 20 percent for boxers and 20 percent for briefs.

Women, as students and as a part of our collective community, prefer the “less is more” philosophy in regards to shopping.

Based on these percentages, men, however, seem to be covering up more and more.
