Aaron Coley is an art student with big ambitions.

He would like to be a freelance fine artist and an illustrator.

"I kind of want to work in movies too, like artists that paint masks on actors or special effects like mini explosions or story boards," he said.

He also wouldn't mind being an illustrator for comic books or newspapers.

Originally, he lived with his father in Minooka but moved to Morris with his Uncle at the end of his junior year in high school to pursue art.

"I started taking art classes my senior year like Art 1, 2, and 3 because it was my best class" Coley said.

While at Morris High School, he won four first place ribbons and five second place ribbons in an art show competition.

After graduating from Morris, he moved to Peru with his mom and came to IVCC, where he has been pursuing art since.

Currently, he is drawing three dimensional objects in art class.

"I'm doing pretty good but I haven't done anything except boxes right now" Coley said. "You have to start somewhere."

Not only does Coley pursue art through education, but also by drawing cartoons for the IV Leader. He was recruited by page editor and columnist Sunny Tunget.

"I ate lunch with Sunny a few times and she told me not to be surprised if I was asked to draw something for the paper, so I wasn't" Coley said.

Coley's major influence in art is surrealist Salvidor Dali.

After IVCC, he plans to transfer to the American Academy of Art in Chicago.

"Art is just fun to do," he said. "I'm a man of few words. I'm more pictures than I am words. When I talk, it's through art. I express myself better when I draw than when I'm writing."
