DEAR IVY COLUMN:  Having sex and good scents

Back to newspaper home page

We are pleased to announce that ‘IVy’ will be dispensing her limitless wisdom in a regularly appearing advice column for this paper. Readers are encouraged to e-mail (Rosemarie_Lynch@ivcc.edu) their questions, or drop them off at the IV Leader office (B317).

Dear IVy,

I am a 20 yr.-old virgin who has questions about sex. I am too embarrassed to go to my friends. Why is society so obsessed about having sex?

Mary

Dear Mary,

If your questions are health-related you should ask your doctor. If you are seeking information on sexual practices, there are many good books in the relationship/self-help section in your local bookstore. Or you will find them listed under Human Sexuality in your public library.

Society is ‘obsessed about having sex’ because it’s ‘fun,’ it ‘feels good,’ and you never forget how-- ‘just like riding a bicycle’. It is one activity that doesn’t cost a lot of money (unless you forget to use birth control). It can be performed alone, but it is better with a friend (preferably one that loves you).

IVy

Dear IVy,

With mid-terms rapidly approaching, are there any non-drug alternatives to stimulants? I often feel like a wet rag.

P.J.

Dear P.J.,

Have you tried aromatherapy? Peppermint essential oil is good when you need an energy boost, and it is also good for headaches. If you have trouble sleeping, lavender essential oil is the one to have. To use: Sprinkle a few drops on a tissue, and inhale as needed or sprinkle a few drops on your pillow case.
