Career exploration is the focus of the March 1 Carnival of Careers on campus.
"In a fun and informative format we will provide resources and ideas to help you spark and explore exciting options of careers for the future," said counselor Valery Calvetti.
Activities are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main lobby, link and Cultural Centre.
A number of information booths and carnival events will be offered from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and from 12:30 to 2 p.m., including a duck pond, fish pond, fortune teller, cow pie throwing contest, and doughnut eating contest. Careers ranging from the sciences to theater will be showcased.
"Everyone walks away a winner," Calvetti said.
Motivational speaker Harvey Alston will deliver the keynote address at 10:15 a.m. in the Cultural Center. Alston has a diverse background, having served as a high school football coach and a financial aid director.
He has taught English, biology, health, life sciences and math. The author or four books, he has business management and supervisory experience in the food and restaurant industry.
The activities are free to IVCC students. Teachers and students from area schools and business representatives have been invited to attend.
Sponsoring organizations are Education to Careers, the Regional Office of Education, IVCC counseling, IVCCs Tech Prep Team and area businesses.
