TRANSFER TALK: Representatives from universities will be on campus on the following dates to talk with prospective transfer students:

- March 6 - Lewis University from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- March 7 - Robert Morris from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- March 13 - St. Francis from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

- March 18 - NIU from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- March 19 - Eureka from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- March 21 - WIU from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- April 9 - Blackburn College from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- April 9 - NIU from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The representatives will be in the main lobby.

CORRECTION: Canterbury is an hour and a half southeast of London, not northeast as reported in "Alvin Recalls his Canterbury Tales" on page 5 of the Feb. 2, 2002 IV Leader.

GRADUATING? Students who have applied to graduate at the end of this semester should be notified about their graduation status during March, according to Director of Admissions and Records Kelly Conrad.

"Graduate applicants should seek counselor assistance if they are told they are missing course work or other requirements," Conrad said.

Commencement is May 17 at 7:30 p.m. Cap and gown measurement is scheduled for March 7 in the Bookstore, but measurements can be taken through March if prospective graduates aren’t available to be measured on March 7.

"The college encourages all graduates to participate in the exercise, but it is voluntary," Conrad said.

GAMING GROUP: Roundtable Gaming was approved as a new student group by the Student Government Association at its Feb. 19 meeting. The group, which focuses on role playing games, is advised by Kim Radek, Bob Hunter and Mike Phillips.

CHEMISTRY EVENTS: The IV Chem Club is hosting a Boy Scout Chemistry Merit Badge workshop, and River Testing. The merit badge workshop is from 8:30 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m. in the chemistry lab. Secretary Sarah Smith said the group needs volunteers to help from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The next testing of the Little Vermilion River is March 9. Participants should meet in the circle drive at 8:30 a.m. with testing to be completed before noon. A sign up sheet is in the chemistry lab. Organizers said the tests will be completed in the lab in the case of inclement weather.

At 7 p.m. March 11, Dr. Robert Marquart, from EIU, will speak on "Geology, Ecology and Chemistry of Caves" in D-225. His presentation is sponsored by the Chem Club and is open to the public free of charge.

SOBERFEST: The SGA is making plans for a Soberfest on March 18. SGA members are working with the Criminal Justice Association and state and local police departments to schedule a number of activities to promote safety and prevent drinking and driving.

SGA ELECTIONS: Elections for Student Government Association officers have been rescheduled from late March until April 18 and 19.

SUMMER REGISTRATION: Registration for summer classes will begin on March 4.

NEED HELP? Tutoring is available, free of charge, at the Peer Tutoring Center. Help is available in a number of subject areas including accounting, biology, chemistry, computer science, English, foreign languages, math, and social sciences.

To request tutoring, see Jim Dresbach in B-325 or call ext. 479. The Center is located in B-201.

ABSENTEE VOTING: Absentee voting is in progress for the March 19 General Primary Election. Persons who qualify to vote absentee may do so in their county clerk's office until March 18. Voters may also vote absentee through the mail by requesting that the county clerk's office send them an application for a ballot.

NEED CHILD CARE? The Learning Ladder Early Childhood Center in Princeton has openings for children from 6 weeks to 7 years in age. The service is available to students enrolled in six or more credit hours and to all faculty and staff.

The Center is a collaborative partnership between Ace Distribution Center and IVCC. It is open Monday to Friday from 4:45 a.m. to 7 p.m.

INTERESTED IN PSYCHOLOGY? The Psychology Club is recruiting students interested in the field of psychology. The group is planning community service projects and a visit to a mental health clinic. Further information is available from advisor Jill Urban-Bollis at jill_ urbanbollis@ ivcc.edu.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Brochures outlining more than 50 scholarships offered by the IVCC Foundation are now available at the Foundation Office, the Financial Aid Office, the Counseling Center and Project Success.

Director of Development Lori Nall said one application would allow a student to be considered for a variety of the scholarships.

Applications must be turned into the Financial Aid Office by March 1. The funds are for the Fall 2002 and Spring 2003 semesters, and scholarships will be awarded by the end of May.

REGISTER TO VOTE: Residents of LaSalle County can register to vote with Giacomo Leone, chair of the humanties and fine arts division, in E-209. A primary election is on March 19.

LOOKING FOR WORK? IVCC is hosting its annual job fair, "Job Expo 2002: Working for the Future," from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on April 11.

STUDYING HEGELER MANSION: The Hegeler Carus Mansion in LaSalle will be the subject of a mini-course beginning March 12. The course will focus on a case study of two families in the Illinois Valley from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s. Taught by Nancy Barta, the course will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from March 12 through May 7. Further information is available at 224-0207.

MILWAUKEE TOUR: IVCC is sponsoring a trip to Milwaukee March 16. The trip includes a guided walking tour of Miller Park Stadium, the home of the Milwaukee Brewers, and of the Pabst Mansion. The bus will leave IVCC at 6:30 a.m. and return at 7 p.m.

The $70 fee includes transportation, tour guide services, admission to the stadium and mansion, and lunch. Further information is available at 224-0207.

NEWSPAPER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: The IV Leader is accepting applications for the staff. Any part-time or full-time student is eligible for the staff. Open positions include: newswriting, sports writing, columnist, graphic artist, cartoonist, photographer, page or layout editor. Advisor Dr. Rose Marie Lynch said no previous publication experience is necessary.
