Six linksters sign for next year

Eagles golf coach Jim Moskalewicz feels confident about the 2002-03 season after recruiting six new members to the team. The players signed their letters of intent on April 6.

The players are Tanner Morris, Mitch Riley, Brad Pinter, Duane Price, Steve Philibrook, and Bob Sipula.

Four of these players were number one players at their high schools and the other two came from schools with a strong golf curriculum.

Morris will be coming from Normal U-High. He tied for 49th in the state helping his team finish second in the Class A Division at state last year.

Philibrook helped Princeton win the Class A State meet. It had been over ten years since Princeton High School has won a regional title. At this Class A meet, Philibrook scored 78. At the state meet, he led his team with an 83. Philibrook was also awarded the News Tribune All-Area first team selection.

Pinter won the News Tribune Boys Golfer of the Year twice. Pinter is qualifying for state at Hall High School for the second time in his gold

career. He has also placed 21st in a ten-way tie at a state meet. Last

year, Pinter was a medalist honor at the Pizza Hut Invitational Championship at Kewanee.

Price was the number one player at Kewannee High School this past fall and placed second at playoffs. He advanced to sectionals after shooting a 75 at the Class A Elmwood Regional.

Riley received all-conference honors after finishing in the top 15 at the NCIC meet. He scored an 84 for his high school at the Class AA Rock Island Regional. Riley has been a starter for his team for three years.

Sipula was the number one player for Ottawa this past fall. He finished third at the NCIC meet, where he tied with his future teammates, Pinter and Price.

Veterans returning to the team include Craig McConville, Cory Riordan, and Ryan Marketti.
