LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Time to cut the IVy
Dear Editor,
While its obvious that the Dear Ivy column is intended to be a parody of advice columns, Ivys responses implying that sex is just another form of entertainment is not only morally offensive, but it is medically inaccurate as well.
In addition to the ever-present surprise pregnancy rate, the rate of infection of many STDs remain high and some re increasing even though many of those infected have no symptoms. Despite their lack of symptoms, however, those with STDs are still at risk for the long-term health problems that are connected to these diseases.
Since Ivy seems to base her advice on marketing slogans from contraceptive merchants, it seems apparent that she has no medical expertise. In our lawsuit-happy society that could make her and IVCC an easy target if someone should take her advice seriously.
