Dean's List: Two-tiered system effective Fall '02
By Don DeWaele
Students graduating from IVCC after the fall of 2002 may see a new academic honor on their transcripts. The Board of Trustees approved a two-tiered system of academic honors at their March 20 meeting.
Under the new system, instead of being named to the Dean's List, a student might receive either President's Honors or Academic Honors. President's Honors will be awarded to students earning a grade point average of 3.75 to 4.0 in 12 or more semester hours for a semester.
Academic Honors will be awarded to students earning a 3.25 to 3.74 in 12 or more semester hours.
Under the old system, any student earning a 3.25 or above was named to the Dean's List.
"The idea is to clean up the titles of the honors," said Dr. Robert Marshall, vice president of student services. "We don't have a Dean at this institution. That makes the title of Dean's List somewhat misleading."
The new honors will be noted on student transcripts.
The change will be effective beginning with the fall 2002 semester.
