“It’s kind of like a stripped down Dave Matthews style with a pop rock and U2 twist thrown in,” said Andrew Plymire about his band’s style of music.

The band, Gadfly, is comprised of La Salle natives. Plymire, 22, a student at IVCC, is the guitarist and lead vocalist. Chris Nesbick, 26, plays the bass and sings vocals. Ken Ward, 29, currently of DeKalb, plays the drums.

Ward met Plymire through a recording project Thomas Smith was doing at PunosSound Production Company. The two had been rehearsing for one year when they met Nesbick at a 9th Street Pub open mic night.

Plymire said there is a strong musical background among the band members. He began playing the guitar when he was 12 years old.

“I stick mainly with rock call forms, a little bit of jazz, and classical guitar music,” Plymire said.

Nesbick has been playing bass for eight years and mainly writes songs. He has written songs for NOFX, Marcy’s Playground, and Fear Factory.

Ward has been playing the drums since he was 8 years old. Other bands he has played with are Pig Farmers, In Between, and Vehicle.

Gadfly has performed at Lou’s La Grotto’s Summer Fest and one show at the 9th Street Pub. Plymire said future shows are being booked.

Band members want to get a manager, begin performing in the Chicago area, and eventually release a nation-wide album.
