Student art tunnels into college basement

Some of IVCCs best student art works may be visible only to tunnel rats and art students.
Students enrolled in Painting, Design and Advanced Drawing are working on murals in building B, adjacent to the art studio labs, located on the bottom level of building B.
The murals, part of the college's beautification project, are adorning what was previously a plain concrete wall.
Students in both Dana Collins' and David Bergsiekers' classes are working on the project. Collins said she required each student to submit three proposals.
"We had discussed possible subject matter, color choices, composition and style before this, in classes," she said. "Each student and I made the selection for individual panels after speaking together."
Students were encouraged to apply the principles they were learning in class, Collins said.
"And I mentioned that the work would, of course, have to be original, and appropriate for a college environment."
Collins said funding for the project comes from campus beautification funds, the art department, the college's buildings and grounds and from the Peru WalMart.
"I've wanted to do this project for years and years," Collins said. "I was glad to see the beautification effort receive such college wide support."
