SGA: Comedian, elections on slate
By Ted Troupis
A performance by comedian Dave Rudolph and upcoming elections are major items on the Student Government Association agenda.
Rudolph is scheduled to perform on campus April 2. His appearance is co-sponsored by the SGA.
Offices to be filled in the April 5 and 6 elections are President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Student Trustee, Sophomore Representative and two Sophomore Programming Board members. Polls will be located in the lobby from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Petitions for those offices will be available in the Student Services Office, C-218, on March 26. The petitions are due March 30.
Jacob Frost, current student trustee, said the petitions for President and Vice President require 100 signatures and the rest 50 signatures.
Frost said the SGA is continuing to investigate the addition of an ATM machine on campus. He said several banks have been contacted and have provided information about their services.
Frost and other SGA officers have also attended several state-wide meetings with student representatives of other colleges. Recently, policies for approving student fee hikes have been under scrutiny, he said.
Frost said the Illinois Board of Higher Education mandates that committees including students be consulted before fee increases are adopted, yet many colleges dont discuss potential increases with student groups before approval.
Frost said the problems discussed at these meetings have convinced him that IVCC students are lucky compared to students at other colleges.
"We are fortunate that our College Board and College President, Dr. Jean Goodnow, are very progressive in terms of policies pertaining to all students and student groups on campus," Frost said. "The focus (at IVCC) has always put students first."
The next SGA meeting, open to students and staff, is at 7:15 a.m. March 27 in the cafeteria area, room C-103. Further information is available a www.ivcc.edu/sga
