Carol Bird, director of Jacobs Library, has been hired as the new director of the Matson Public Library in Princeton starting April 1.

Bird has been employed from 1989 to 1997 as cataloguer and inter-librarian loan person for IVCC’s library.

Prior to her work at Jacobs Library, Bird was head librarian for the Peru Public Library and also served as head librarian for the LaSalle Public Library and the Putnam County Public Library.

"I actually began my work as a librarian in the Illinois Valley area on the second floor of Matson Public Library when I worked for the Starved Rock System as the librarian to the blind and physically handicapped," she said.

Bird and her family moved to Princeton in August 1974. She opened Bureau Valley Travel in 1981, which she still owns. Bird worked there for about five years before returning to library work.

Bird will stay at IVCC until March 30. Human Resources at IVCC has begun the search for her replacement, with advertising locally, state wide through the Chicago Tribune, and nationally through the Chronicle of Higher Education.
