Leadership Development is the title of a course that will be offered for the first time in the fall.

According to the course description, LDS-1000 is "designed to provide emerging and existing leaders the opportunity to explore the concept of leadership and to develop and improve their leadership skills."

The 3-hour credit course will be taught by psychology instructor Jill Urban-Bollis and English instructor Kirk Lockwood.

The course is the result of a cooperative effort by the Social Science Division, the Humanities and Fine Arts Division and Phi Theta Kappa. Encouraging and developing leadership is a goal of PTK.

Lockwood said the course supports IVCC’s valued practice of "encourag(ing) lifelong learning to prepare responsible citizens."

Lockwood said some Illinois universities would accept the course as elective credit, but students should check with their transfer university.

The course is scheduled to meet Tuesdays and Thursday at 1 to 3:30 p.m. from Aug. 20 through Oct. 12.
