Assistant cashier Marlene Knecht is retiring April 30.
In 1980 she was hired for what was supposed to be a short-term job as a cashier. Then she worked in the Records Office, with mini courses in continuing education, and in admissions before returning to cashier. In her current job as assistant cashier, she also handles the billing for IVCC.
Before being hired (at IVCC), I was strictly a home Mom," she said.
Knecht and her husband, George, have three children, one son and two daughters, all married and "on their own," as she said. They also have three grandchildren, and Knecht said she enjoys doing crafts and fun things with her grandchildren.
In her "off hours," as she called them, she does housework and cooking, but she said there are "not many off hours."
In her retirement, she said "I would adjust to not working."
Cashier Isabelle Furar, who is also retiring, said, "Marlene is wonderful, she's a great person, great co-worker, great friend."
