Data Control Clerk Edward Herrmann is retiring May 18 after 21 years at IVCC.
He graduated from Hall High School in 1953, and worked for Westclox for 15 years in the Computer Department, until the company moved to Georgia.
In 1980, he was hired at IVCC and became responsible for processing grades and payroll. When he started, the college was also doing the payrolls for Horizon House and Seneca, Marquette and L-P High Schools. Those organizations are now handling their own records, which is one sign of technological advancements, Hermann said.
Herrmann's current responsibilities are to process grades, process Scantron-form exams and placement tests, run special reports, assist in getting student transcripts into the new Colleague student information system, and other duties he said were too numerous to list.
Harold Barnes, director of computer services, said: "Ed is one of the people at IVCC who quietly work behind the scenes in order to keep the college running. His responsibilities in the department are widespread, requiring knowledge of computers ranging from mainframes to PC's. Ed is a great person to work with and a big asset to the IT department. He will be greatly missed."
Herrmann's interests, outside of work, include being secretary for the Better Fishing Association, church organist for St. Peter Paul in Spring Valley and on the board of Friends of Hennepin Canal. He also enjoys photography and plans to continue in these activities after retirement.
