250 to receive degrees, 50 nurses being pinned

About 120 students are expected to participate in graduation ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. May 18 in the gymnasium.
Kelly Conrad, director of admissions, said about 250 students will be receiving degrees and 60 to 80 will receive certificates at the end of this semester.
In the ceremony, expected to last about an hour, students will be honored for completing their studies Cum Laude, a 3.25 grade point average and above; Magna Cum Laude, a 3.75 and above; and Summa Cum Laude, 4.0 or the highest above 3.75.
Graduates will also be recognized for certificate honors.
The F. W. Matthiessen Award may be presented. The award is presented to a student who has a high gpa and who has also participated in college and community activities. Faculty members nominate students for the award. Whether the award will be presented this year has not yet been decided.
IVCC President Dr. Jean Goodnow will address the graduates. A decision on a commencement speaker had not been made at press time, according to Dr. Robert Marshall, vice president of student services.
Graduate Megan Zomboracz, a graduate, will sing the national anthem. The wind ensemble, directed by Gene Montgomery, will perform.
NURSE PINNING
The Nurse Pinning ceremony will be at 11 a.m. May 19 in the Cultural Centre. A reception
will follow the ceremony.
Laura Hodgson, nursing laboratory instructor, said approximately 50 students will be graduating. Over 300 guests are expected for the pinning.
Hodgson will present a slide show of pictures taken over the last year. Instructor Tina Nink will perform the lighting ceremony. Gloria Bouxsein, chair of the health professions division, will pin the graduates. Carole Hass, former director of nursing will say the benediction.
Students Ann Fritz and Heather Treest will address the graduates and guests.
