"I think we achieved our goals, but that doesn’t mean we are going to give up now," said women’s basketball coach, Steve Crick, of their 2000-2001 season.

Before the first game, the team set goals they hoped to accomplish.

"One of our goals," Crick said, "was to win the conference this season; another was to win 20 games."

They did both. Overall their season record was 23-7, and their conference record was 10-2.

"I think anything we achieved above those goals would be a bonus," said Crick.

Right now, Crick believes the team is playing really good and many of the players are stepping out and proving themselves.

"We’re playing really good right now. I would say our shooting is our biggest strength. Particularly Jaci Bice, Katie Kohr, Monica Terando, and Nicole Oberle."

As the team wraps up the year, Crick reflected on some of the most crucial games. He mentioned

the first regional on March 3, when the Lady Apaches beat Morton 92 to 71, and Bice led the team with 31 points.

The second regional, scheduled after press time, is the semi final. It will determine if the women will play in the championships and possibly advance to the nationals in Maryland.

"We have to play the number one team, Kankakee, a team we beat earlier in the season by one point," Crick said. "We are just hoping we can find a way to beat them again."

Nearing the end of the season, Crick’s concentration has been focused on the tournaments; however, he knows a new season is quickly approaching.

"Right now we are just trying to concentrate on the regionals," said Crick. "Obviously though, we would like to get another competitive team for next season. Most on the team right now are sophomores, so they will be moving on. Katie Kohr and Katie Zemann will be returning, but we have a lot of recruiting to do."
