IVCC’s baseball and softball fields are undergoing renovations for the 2001 season.

The Physical Plant and the Athletic Departments are working on the fields to bring them up-to-date and to insure they are safe to play on, according to Athletic Director Mike Riley.

For the baseball field, new soil will be added and the dugouts will be cleaned and painted. Last fall, sod work was done and a new fence was installed.

"The old (baseball) field was just not safe," Riley said. "It was just risky for the players."

Other renovations for both fields will include new batter boxes, new pitcher mounds, and the addition of safety caps on the fences.

Riley said plans call for the work to be completed for the start of the home seasons, "but it depends on the weather." Work was tentatively scheduled to resume at press time.

"The Physical Plant is working very hard, and we feel real good that we can continue to improve the fields through the years," Riley said, adding that the college usually does some work on the fields yearly.

He estimated the cost of the renovations for both fields at between $8,000 and $9,000.
