Joan Tostovarsnik, cafeteria cashier, died Feb. 15. She was 60.

She had been employed at IVCC for six years when she resigned in October 2000 because of illness.

"She had the gift of making everyone feel like an old friend," said Mary Tully, adult education grant secretary. "Maybe it was her ready smile whenever you met her…she had such a sense of herself."

Tully mentioned seeing Tostovarsnik after the Woodland Festival at IVCC in the summer: "Joanie had worked the cafeteria booth all that day and then she and her husband, Dick, were leaving for a short trip. There sat Joanie on the back of her husband’s bike all smiles…After a few minutes, they took off, together as always."

Before coming to IVCC, Tostovarsnik worked at the Wheel of Fortune in LaSalle for 25 years.

Tostovarsnik is survived by her husband, Richard, of LaSalle, one daughter, Sherry Galas of Oswego, one son Terry Tostovarsnik at home and two grandchildren.

Services were Feb. 19 at the Mueller Funeral Home and the Resurrection Church in LaSalle. Burial was at the Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley.
