Erwin picked as president at ICC

Dr. John S. Erwin, former chair of the social science division at IVCC, is now President of Illinois Central College in Peoria. Erwin became the fourth President of ICC on Jan. 1, 2001.
Erwin was at IVCC from August 1990 through October 1994.
"What I remember most about IVCC is the friendliness of the people and staff," he said.
He resigned his position at IVCC to become the Dean of Instruction at Iowa Valley Community College. He then served as Dean of Humanities and Sciences and eventually Academic Vice President at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in Ohio, where he was before taking the Peoria post.
Before coming to IVCC, he taught at Olney Central College in Olney, Ill.
As ICC President, Erwin is the Chief Executive Officer of the college, which has an enrollment of 11,000 credit students or about three times the size of IVCC.
About his new position, Erwin said, "I am working with an excellent faculty and staff who I know are going to help me along the way."
Erwin said his family is being very supportive of the move from Cincinnati.
Erwin has a Ph.D. in U.S. history and American studies from Indiana University, a masters in U.S. Hhistory from Indiana University, a masters of divinity from Methodist Theological School in Ohio, and bachelors degrees from the University of Indianapolis in English and religion. In addition to teaching, he also served as a chaplain and a counselor.
