MARLA'S MUSINGS COLUMN:  Freedom of speech works both ways

By Marla Buchanan

The freedom of speech is a beautiful thing. Any old jackass can bray their heart out when they get a burr in their tail, even a certain opinion columnist.

Some people would say that I don’t just have a burr, but a rectally inserted cactus. All that I know is that it pains me to sit still and keep silent among the pricks.

Someone pass me a donut-cushion.

Speaking of pained "asses," people like Matt Hale have the right to spout their slanted, hate-filled rhetoric without censorship. Why? Because NO ONE has the right to tell a person how to believe, or that they can’t express their views-no matter how controversial.

I also believe that Matt Hale should be given his law license. Although he has passed the Illinois Bar Exam, he has been denied a law license because of his questionable "morals."

Who is the judge of moral virtue, other lawyers?

It is a dangerous thing to censor someone’s thinking and beliefs. Who’s next? Is it possible that other people will be denied their livelihood because they don’t conform to the status quo? Hmm…writers, philosophers, scientists, and musicians may become

endangered species if this kind of thing continues. Freedom of speech, along with the freedom of (and from) religion is supposed to be our constitutionally protected right.

I am tired of politicians and bureaucrats who treat the bill of rights like a cafeteria, picking and choosing to create a legislative "daily special." This is slop, and it makes me run for the toilet.

Many people who feel the need to censor are self-righteous, creatively frigid individuals who need to relieve their tension by actively stifling expressive minds.

As I stated in my last article, massaging devices are a great way to relieve anxiety.

Maybe the Easter Bunny will put one in their basket.

If you don’t like what someone says, walk away. If you don’t like how a person believes, let them be.

Everyone does not agree with everyone, that is the beauty of diversity. The world would really be a boring place if everyone thought the same thoughts and spoke the same words.

Our society is not populated by robots, and living creatures think, much to the dismay of the Orwellian elite. Just say no to the thought police.

Hurray for "thought crimes." I aim to be a repeat offender.
