Phi Theta Kappa members have been planning an initiation for new members, scheduling a party with another PTK chapter and wrapping up a creative writing contest they organized.
The PTK initiation is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 27 in the Fireplace Lounge. An orientation for eligible new members is at 5 p.m. March 21 in C-316. To be eligible for membership a student must have a cumulative gpa of 3.5 or higher, be enrolled this semester, and have completed 12 semester hours.
PTK members will meet with their sister chapter from Sauk Valley for a bowling/pizza party March 18 in Princeton.
As one of their service projects, PTK members sponsored a creative writing contest at Oglesby Washington School at the end of the fall semester. In January, the winners were recognized with gift certificates to Walden Books.
The contest, for third graders, required the students to write about something that would be different in the new millennium.
Tera Aukland, treasurer, said, "Many students wrote about their school, their parent's car or their new school desks, each with their own little computer."
The PTK officers and Kirk Lockwood, one of the advisors, judged the contest.
