IVCC is offering a new truck driver training program this spring.

The program will include a driving portion and classroom sessions. After completing the program, a student will have earned a Class A commercial license.

IVCC is partnering with Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield for the program. Initially, Lincoln Land will be supplying most of the equipment and instructors. IVCC is currently advertising for truck driver training instructors.

John Allen, associate vice president of career education, said "there are a lot of trucking terminals in the area in need of drivers." He explained that of 155 people who completed the program at Lincoln last year, 153 got jobs.

The 10-credit hour program will cost $2750, Lincoln Land's tuition. After completing the courses, students will have 600 hours of a paid apprenticeship with experienced drivers.
