April 5 Quincy from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.CAP AND GOWN: Collegiate Cap and Gown will be at the Bookstore from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 15 to measure graduates for caps and gowns. Fees for cap and gown are part of the graduation fee, so no additional payment is necessary.
FOOD DRIVE: The Educators Club is sponsoring a food drive March 13 through 17 to benefit the Illinois Valley Food Pantry. Drop off boxes will be in the main lobby.
"We would like to challenge every student and every faculty/staff to bring at least one food product," said Jill Urban-Bollis, instructor of educational psychology.
DANCE PLANNED: A dance with a DJ is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. March 25 in the upper gym. Planned by People of the World End Racism, the event will feature raffles for certificates that can be redeemed at local stores. Admission will be free to IVCC students with an ID.
POWER advisor Kim Abel asked that anyone interested in helping with the dance call her at ext. 330.
CHEM GROUP TRAVELS: Members of the IVCC Chem Club will be in San Francisco March 24 to 28 to attend the American Chemical Society national meeting. The campus group will be receiving an award, presenting chemistry demonstrations, and presenting a poster of their activities.

BYRNE RECEIVES GRANT: Chemistry instructor Bob Byrne has been selected to receive a $992 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Natural Heritage Division from contributions to the Illinois Wildlife Preservation Fund.
The grant will enable Byrne, the Chem Club and other IVCC students and faculty to study the Mitchells Grove Nature Preserve, located just north of Interstate 80 near the Little Vermilion River. The group will return to Mitchells Grove on April 29 for river testing.

LIGHTING THE WAY: Products planned, designed, produced and marketed by IVCC students will be for sale at the MIMIC Fair 2000 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 26 in the cafeteria. Students enrolled in business, engineering, electronics, and Web page design are currently working in eight teams or companies.
Rose Lewis, chairperson of the MIMIC Fair steering committee, said this years theme is Lighting the Way to the Future.
Organizers are looking for groups to participate in the fair by offering bake sales, magic shows or other programs or demonstrations. Anyone interested should contact Brenda Vissering at

They are: Mike Phillips, geology instructor; Cynthia Schultz, math instructor; Gloria Bouxsein, nursing instructor; Brian Campbell, English instructor; Michael Pecherek, music instructor; Sallee Beneke, assistant to instruction; and counselors Renee Jones and Jane Sack.
GIBSON APPOINTED: Electronics instructor Jim Gibson has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the board of directors for the Illinois Association of Electricity and Electronics Educators.
One of the IAEEEs major activities, the Technical Skills Contest, will be hosted by IVCC on April 29. The statewide contest allows students to compete against their peers in nine areas.
DANCE RAISES $5,000: The 75th Anniversary Valentine's Ball, held on Feb. 12, raised over $5,000 for the IVCC Foundation. The Ball, held at Celebrations 150 in LaSalle, was attended by nearly 200 people. The teachers' union, A.F.T., local 1810, donated $500.
CAMPUS VISITS: Project Success is providing a visit to the WIU campus on March 25, leaving at 6 a.m. and returning at 6 p.m. To sign up or for further information, contact Project Success in LRC-D. A $5 refundable deposit is required.
CAMP APACHE: The 2000 Day Camp, offered for school age children, will be April 17 through 20. Named Camp Apache, the camp is offered by students in the social science internship course. Organizers are recruiting campus organizations and faculty members to provide activities for the children. Anyone interested can contact Diane Christianson or Jill Urban-Bollis.
