IVCC’s women’s basketball program is 25 years old this season.

The Lady Apaches began play in 1975-76, just before construction on the gymnasium was complete. Ken Pyszka, an educational psychology instructor, was the first women’s coach, a position he held for 11 years.

Lacking an on-campus facility at the start of the season, the women practiced outdoors, and at Northview School and Roosevelt School, both in Peru. The first game they played in the IVCC gym was a 59-31 victory on Jan. 28, 1976, according to an issue of the Apache.

The Lady Apaches finished their first season at 5 – 8. Carol Jansen was the leading scorer with a 17 point average and Sue Edgcomb followed with an 11.6 average.
