Students make spring break plans

A beach, students from all over the country ready to party: the spring break of legend.
IVCC students will be heading for Panama City Beach, Cancun, South Padre Island and the Cayman Islands on March 4, but most students will spend the week working, studying and relaxing in the Illinois Valley, according to interviews with more than 150 students.
Among those getting away, Nick Dzierzynski of Peru will be in Florida with the Apache baseball team.
"I think we'll have a lot of fun at the clubs," he said.
Steven Bradford of LaSalle will be in Corpus Christi, Texas.
"It's going to be great," he said. "The sun, the chicks, and the drinks. What more can you ask for?"
Jennifer Wilson of Ottawa plans to enjoy her time in the Caribbean.
"Any type of activities involved with swimming interest me, such as swimming with stingrays," she said. "I've never tried it but I would like to try parasailing."
A number of students who aren't leaving the area wish they could. Alexia Riva of Peru would like to go to Mexico.
"I hate being cold," she said. "I just want to be in hot weather."
A few students are getting away for two or three days trips and to less exotic locations like Indiana, Kentucky and Minnesota. One student heading for Iowa explained, "It's better than school."
The break is a family event for some. Mark Morton of Rantoul plans to take his 2-year-old to Disney World "to make his (son's) dreams come true."
Timing of IVCCs break is a problem for some parents, however.
"My kids have off a totally different week than me," said Kay Burden of Sheffield. "We can't plan our get away without interrupting either one of our school days."
Work is keeping some students home. Scott Pozzie of Toluca will be working so he can pay his bills.
"No one else pays them," he said.
Cleaning house, catching up on homework and sleep are also on the agenda.
Ron Woodward of Ottawa said he plans to "do as little as possible and still stay on my wife's good side."
