POETRY PRESENTATIONS: Poet Amy Newman will lecture on "Form and Poetry" on March 1 at 2 p.m. in F-113 and 7 p.m. in the Fireplace Lounge.
Jeff Mock will present a poetry reading, "Why Do Poets Talk So Funny?" on March 22 at 2 p.m. in F-113 and 7 p.m. in the Fireplace Lounge.
The presentations, Honors Colloquium programs, are open to the public and free of charge.
BEING PUBLISHED: River Currents, IVCC's literary magazine, is accepting submissions for the 2000 issue. Interested students should submit stories, poems, plays, creative essays or artwork to Geoff Schmidt in A-315 or Kim Radek in A-311.
Schmidt said anonymous submissions would not be accepted, but the works would be considered anonymously. To receive feedback on a work, a self-addressed stamped envelope should be enclosed.
"Impress future employers or college admissions boards," Schmidt said. "Get your work published."
RIVERDANCING: Project Success will be taking 35 students to see Riverdance at the Peoria Civic Center on March 25. Project Success students may sign up in the office in LRC-D.
ESSAY COMPETITION: Students are invited to compete for a $500 scholarship in the Illinois Community College Trustees Association Paul Simon Student Essay Contest. The statewide contest will recognize the student who best describes "How My Community College Has Changed My Life."
All students are eligible to participate but the college will be allowed to enter only one essay in the competition.
Essays must be 500 words or less and keyboarded. Submissions will be judged on the basis of writing style, grammar and punctuation, clarity of expression and relevancy to the topic. Entries must be received in the Public Information Office (C-341) by March 1.
