"Holiday Flare," a play by IVCC Theatre Director Dr. David Allan Kuester, will make its world premiere on stage at IVCC Feb. 24.

The play focuses on the emotionally disturbed world of Nora Allen, played by Karry Baracani-Halblieb. "Holiday Flare" deals with a number of controversial issues, including dysfunctional families, mental illness, alcohol abuse, sexual molestation, and homosexuality.

Because of those issues, Dr. Kuester is recommending the play for adult audiences.

"This play was not a point to bring up these issues; however, communication about them needs to happen," Kuester said.

Counselors and social service assistance will not be available at the productions of the play, but a crisis line phone number will be listed in the program.

Dr. Kuester is directing the play with the assistance of Erin Peters and George Ferroni. Music instructor Mike Pecharek will provide musical accompaniment.

Productions are scheduled for 8 p.m. Feb. 24, 25, and 26, and at 2 p.m. Feb. 27, all in the Cultural Centre. Tickets are available in the bookstore and at the door, free to IVCC students and staff and $3 for the general public.

"Holiday Flare" will be featured at the Illinois Theater Association All College Festival at Joliet Junior College March 17 and 18.
