IVCC nursing students surpassed national and state averages on their national licensing exams during 1999.

Statistics from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation show 93 percent of IVCC students passed the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses. That compared to 83 percent passage at the state level and 85 percent nationally.

For practical nurses, all of IVCC’s students passed the national exam, compared to 84 percent statewide and 86 percent nationally.

Instructor Gloria Bouxsein said, "We as nursing faculty need to be very proud of the 1999 graduates of our LPN and ADN programs for achieving the high pass rate on the NCLEX exams. Through critical thinking they were able to assimilate classroom and clinical knowledge into a test format."

Bonnie Grusk, chair of health professions, said, "The scores are a credit both to the instructors and the students themselves."
