TRANSFER TALK: Representatives from universities will be in the main lobby to talk with prospective transfer students on the following dates:

- April 24 -- NIU, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- April 24 -- U of I/Springfield, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- April 25 -- Eureka, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- May 9 -- Eureka, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The representatives will be in the main lobby.

MEASUREING UP: The bookstore is taking cap and gown measurements through April 7.

BAKE SALES: Bake sales are planned for April 11 and April 20 by two campus groups:

- April 11, the Gay/Straight Alliance, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

- April 20, the Chem Club, all day

Both sales are outside of the cafeteria.

CUBS ROAD TRIP: A roadtrip to see the Cubs is being planned for May 16 by the Chem Club. The price of $10 will include a ticket to the game, the bus ride there, and a sandwich and soda, said Chem Club member Nathan Johnson. "It's a good deal," Johnson said.

Tickets will be available from Chem Club advisor Bob Byrne through April 15. Johnson said chemistry students would get first priority.

Plans are for the bus to leave from IVCC at 3 p.m. The Cubs will be facing the L.A. Dodgers that day.

JOB HUNTING HELP: The Bookstore has a selection of books available on resumes, cover letters and job search methods. These titles will be available through graduation at 15 percent off the retail price.

CHEMISTRY MAGIC: "Twenty Some-Odd Demonstrations Guaranteed to Knock Your Socks Off," a chemistry show with Bob Becker, will be presented at 7 p.m. April 28 in the Cultural Centre. The program is provided free of charge and sponsored by Air Products of LaSalle and the Arts and Letters Series and IVCC Chemistry Club.

TEXT BUYBACK: Buyback dates for spring are during final exams: May 4 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., May 5 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., May 8 and May 9 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

NEW PTK MEMBERS: The Rho Omega chapter of Phi Theta Kappa inducted 17 students at its initiation ceremony March 27. The new members are: Jennifer Lyn Lischewski, James Edward Barnes, Sergio Alejanoro Carrillo, Marie A. Gray, Kevin Martin Killelea, Katheryn Lynn Long, Lorraine Susan Napier, Helen Sharp, Kora Lynn Brown, George William Harden, Ammie Kay Liddle, Bernadine Menne, Pam Huffstodt, Donna Jean Heidkamp, Nerys Wyn Bernabei, Louis Blair Clarkson II, and Jeffrey Daniel Dzik.

Those students had to achieve a 3.5 gpa to be eligible for membership in the only nationally recognized honors organization for community colleges.

TAKE BACK THE NIGHT: The Criminal Justice Association will sponsor a Take Back the Might March in the LaSalle-Peru area on May 4. Rebecca Donna, director of the criminal justice program, said other agencies would sponsor similar marches in Streator and Ottawa on that date.

"This (march) is a community awareness event to draw attention to safety issues and concerns in the community," Donna said.

CELEBRATING JOBS: More than 100 employers will be on campus April 20 for the Celebration of Jobs, IVCC’s job fair. The employers will be available in the main gymnasium from 8 a.m. to noon. to discuss full-time and part-time jobs and internships.

"What an opportunity to walk into one room and be able to interview with over 100 employers," said John Marzetta, director of the Career Service Center. "It would take you years of sending out resumes to get even one-fourth of that many interviews."

Marzetta advised students to be aware that employers are looking for a neat and professional resume and cover letter, good interview skills, professional dress and good hygiene, strengths in attendance, attitude, communication and basic math.

Last year more than 2,500 students and area citizens attended the fair.

COMPETING IN STATE: Members of the Apache editorial staff will be attending the Illinois Community College Journalism Association Conference and Contest April 9 and 10 at College of DuPage. Attending will be Randa Anthony, Nate Bloomquist, April Biswell, John Baracani and David Msseemmaa.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: Scholarship brochures outlining the more than 120 scholarships offered by the IVCC Foundation are now available. The Foundation annually awards scholarships totallying more than $70,000.

Applications are due by April 14. For a brochure and scholarship application, contact the Office of Development at 224-0524.

PUT YOUR NAME IN PRINT: Students interested in any aspect of publishing can apply for the Apache staff. All students, part-time and full-time, are eligible.

NEED HELP WITH A CLASS? Peer tutoring is available, free of charge, in the Academic Achievement Center in B-315. Anyone who would like assistance needs to fill out an application available in the tutoring office, B-325. A schedule of tutoring sessions is available there.
