Barb Tuntland, IVCC's reading expert, will be retiring at the end of the spring semester after 20 years of service at IVCC.

Tuntland has taught advanced reading, strategies for college, and worked in the reading, writing and study skills lab, a lab she helped to establish here.

Tuntland has a B.S. and a Masters in elementary education with an emphasis in reading from ISU. Before coming to IVCC in 1980, she taught pre-school in Putnum County and LaSalle County and elementary reading in Spring Valley and Princeton.

Tuntland said she has enjoyed her time here at IVCC and has seen many changes.

"My main goal is to help students achieve their goals," she said.

After retirement Tuntland plans on doing some volunteer work, sewing, and traveling a bit. She would like to go to Arizona, Pennsylvania or on a cruise to the Caribbean.

She also plans on spending time with her three grandchildren in LaMoille and two in Arizona.
