JOB HUNTING HELP: An opportunity to talk with local human resource managers is being offered free of charge March 18 by the Career Service Center from 3 to 4 p.m. in D-225.
Managers from Amcore Bank, B & B Electronics, Boise Cascade, Carus Publishing, Community Hospital of Ottawa, Eakas Corporation, Manpower and IVCC will be available to answer questions.

PTK PIZZA: Thirteen members and three advisors of the IVCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa joined members of the Sauk Valley PTK chapter for a bowling and pizza party Feb. 20 at the Crown Lanes in Princeton.
Advisor Wes Black said he hoped the outing could be turned into an annual event.
"It was good for the students to meet other honor society members and just relax with some soda and bowling," he said.
CAPS AND GOWNS: Measurements for caps and gowns will be taken at the Bookstore on March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. A representative from Collegiate Cap and Gown will be taking the measurements.
Bookstore manager Lauren Sandberg said that the Bookstore will have the tools available to measure anyone after that date.
"Orders must be placed as soon as possible to guarantee delivery on time for graduation," Sandberg said. "Please dont wait until the last minute to be measured."
Cost of the cap and gown is include in the graduation fee, Sandberg said.
The Collegiate representative will also re-measure faculty and staff members to correct problems that existed with last years gowns, Sandberg said. She said any staff member who has had a degree change should also stop by the bookstore on March 15.
RIVER TESTING: American Chemical Society members are sponsoring a river testing of the Little Vermilion on March 29. Julie Gula, ACS secretary, said anyone interested in helping is welcome to attend.
A sign up sheet is in the chemistry lab, Gula said. The group will be leaving from the turn-around in front of the main campus entrane at 8:45 a.m.
MATHEMATICALLY CORRECT: Over 150 students from eight area high schools participated in the regional ICTM Division A Mathematics Contest on campus Feb. 27.
Winning teams were: Rock Island-Alleman in first place, Seneca second, Mendota third and Yorkville fourth. Winners will advance to the state competition.
Sponsored by the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics and CNA Insurance, the contest includes written exams in algebra I and II, geometry and precalculus, eight-person teams, two-person teams, calculating teams and oral competitions.
MEETING CHEMISTS: American Chemical Society members will be in Anaheim, Calif. March 19 23 for the national ACS meeting. Attending will be Beth Whittington, Rhiannon Petzel, Melanie Gleason, Patrick Hansen, Julie Gula, Ryan Smith, Jamie Townsend, Adam Croissant, Kelly Caldwell and advisor Robert Byrne.
The group will be doing demonstrations and presenting their poster at the convention.
WRITING DAY: Nearly 200 students from eight area high schools participated in the Day of Writing sponsored by the IVCC Humanities and Fine Arts Division March 5. About 20 writers, from all over the state, came to the campus to lead workshops with the student writers, organizer Kim Radek said.
Poetry readings by former IVCC instructor Katie Riegel and SIU instructor Allison Joseph were highlights of the day.
TEAM TRAVELING: Members of the Students in Free Enterprise Team will be attending a SIFE competition in Chicago April 6 and 7.
Team members include Tera Aukland, Tara Brickert, Chad Calsyn, Nick Dzierzynski, Jamie Lemmer, Lorraine Napier, Amy Robinson, Jodie Schumacher, Connie Uzella, Amber Vanwaes, Brenda Vissering and Dave Burton. They will be accompanied by advisors Bob Reese, Mike Sankovich and Alice Steljes.
TENURE TIME: Five instructors were granted tenure at the Feb. 17 meeting of the Board of Trustees. The five are Jeff Carver, physical science lab assistant; Web Black, math instructor; Alice Hunter, nursing instructor; Bonnie Beardsley, nursing instructor; and Kirk Lockwood, English instructor.
Faculty are eligible for tenure after three years and a rigorous review process which includes classroom evaluations, said Dr. Harriet Custer, vice president of academic affairs.
NEW BUILDING SUPERVISOR: Gary K. Johnson has been hired as the Supervisor of Facilities. Johnson worked for 18 years in building services at Jostens in Princeton and for 11 years as a carpenter with Johnson Construction in Spring Valley.
He fills a post that has remained open since the fall semester when the former supervisor, Larry Rousey, was named Director of the Physical Plant.
Johnson has been on campus since March 1.
JOB-FEST 99: The annual job fair is scheduled for April 15 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the gymnasium. Further information is available from the Career Service Center at ext. 214 or 502.
MAKING PROGRESS: Paul McDevitt of the University of Illinois at Springfield will discuss "Business and Progress" at the next Honors Colloquium on March 17at 2 p.m. in F-113.
The program is open to the public and free of charge.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS VISIT: Upperclassmen from area high schools will be on campus March 17 for a WINSday Open House.
Counselor Jim Moskalewicz said the open house is "geared towards high school upperclassmen interested in learning more about what IVCC has to offer."
The morning visit includes classroom visits, a campus tour and discussions.
TEACHERS WRITING: High school and community college English instructors will be on campus April 13 for a writing workshop presented by Houghton-Mifflin Company and sponsored by IVCC and the Starved Rock Association for Vocational-Technical Education.
Linda Houston, Coordinator of Communication Skills and the Writing Center at Ohio State Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster, Ohio, will present the workshop.
