SIFE launches several new projects
The Students in Free Enterprise team is developing a number of projects aimed at teaching principles of business, finance and marketing to young people.
The projects include:
publishing a career magazine
publishing a book on saving and spending
organizing students into a company, the Cupcake Factory
designing a stock market game.
The career magazine, titled The Skys the Limit: What Direction Will You Fly, has been written and is being printed. It is aimed at junior high school students.
The book on spending and saving, aimed at 8 to 10-year-olds, is being written. Brenda Vissering, public relations officer for SIFE, said two publishers have indicated an interest in the book.
Accounting instructor Mike Sankovich is advising on the book project.
For the Cupcake Factory project, SIFE members will help fifth grade students to set up a business, sell stock, borrow money, make and sell cupcakes.
"The major part of the project is teaching them how to finance it," Vissering said.
Accounting instructor Alice Steljes is advising the Cupcake project.
The stock market game under development is aimed at sixth and seventh grade students. Business instructor Bob Reese is advising on that project.
