The Apaches’ number three singles player, Dan Kotecki of Peru, has been playing tennis for about eight years.

The 20-year old is one of three veterans on this year’s team. In this season’s opening match against Eureka, Kotecki won his singles play and also in doubles, playing at the number 1 doubles slot.

Last season, he played number 3 singles and went 11-1 prior to the Region IV Tournament where he finished third.

First year coach Bruce Nelson said, "Kotecki is looking to be singles champ in his flight at the end of the year come the tournament."

Nelson described Kotecki as an experienced and strong offensive player.

Kotecki graduated from L-P High School where he played under coach Marv Getty. He played all four years in high school before joining the Apache team last year under coach Robert Mueller.

The sophomore, who is studying chemistry, will be graduating in May and then transferring to Illinois State University to continue in chemistry and bio-chemistry. He does not plan on playing in ISUs team. His long-term goal is becoming an optometrist.

Besides playing tennis and studying chemistry, Kotecki likes to play his guitar and listen to music in his spare time.
