The following information and comments are the candidate's reponses to an Apache questionnaire
Occupation: Commercial Loan Officer, Amcore Bank
Family: Wife (Lynn), 2 children age 5, 3
Education:
Attended IVCC
B.S. Illinois State U.
Residence: Mendota
Connection with IVCC:
Attended IVCC 1983-85. Mini course instructor (adult recreation). My wife Lynn attended IVCC.
Qualifications for the Board:
Because I have lived in Mendota my entire life, I feel that I am familiar with the college and its district. I was fortunate enough to have attended and worked for IVCC, therefore I have seen the college from the student and employee's perspective.
I currently reside and own a home with my wife Lynn in Mendota. Being a homeowner allows me to see the viewpoint of taxpayers within the district. Lynn graduated from Mendota High School, attended IVCC and graduated from Northern Illinois University. She currently teaches first grade in Earlville.
I worked for nine years at Ingersoll-Rand Architectural Hardware - LCN Division in Princeton as Credit Manager. I feel working in two communities within IVCC's district has helped me understand more about the district and how the citizens feel about the college. I am involved with the MS Walk, March of Dimes Walk America, Peru Rotary, Mendota Lions Club and as a class instructor for Junior Achievement.
I understand the great pride that the people of the Illinois Valley have in their communities and schools. I understand how businesses, both private and public, operate from my experiences as a credit manager and commercial loan officer.
Why running for the Board:
I want to ensure that IVCC is able to maintain quality and affordable education. I want to make sure that people within the district are able to attend IVCC for education, no matter what type of program. We need to maintain the quality education that has been established, so degree students are able to find jobs and those wishing to further their studies are able to transfer hours and succeed at the university of their choice. We must also make sure it is affordable so that people within the district will continue to use the college. I also want to make sure that the college continues to service as many of the needs of people within the district.
Biggest challenges facing the college:
Maintaining affordable tuition of a quality education, while maintaining a low tax rate appears to be the major issue. Working within the budget to maintain the facilities and keep up with technology are also important.
