A GED Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 16 in the Cultural Centre, open to all past and current graduates and their guests.
Organizers expect about 50 people receiving their GED certificates to participate. Cindy Lock, Adult Education Specialist, said about 400 people attended last year to watch about the same number of graduates. Lock said just over 200 students in LaSalle County passed the GED exam this year.
Lock said last years ceremony, the first she witnessed, made a big impression on her.
"I was so impressed by the number of people in attendance and the quality of the ceremony," she said. "The speeches from students were both touching and revealing. They gave me a real sense of the services this department delivers and the way it affects and touches peoples lives."
Those wishing to attend the ceremony should call 224-0372 to order a tassel and to assist the department in making plans for refreshments. Caps and gowns are made available at no cost; tassels are available for $5.
