A number of IVCC graduates have been keeping in touch with the advisor of People of the World End Racism, Kim Abel, and the news they are reporting to her is good.

Those graduates, all athletes and POWER members at IVCC, include Carl Woods, Robert Greene, Dawud Shabazz, and Coe Bonner.

Carl Woods, a 1993 IVCC graduate, has just received his M.A. in Environmental Consulting in West Virginia. He is currently applying for a position at a university.

Woods, who came to IVCC from Indiana to play football, was the president of POWER. During his time here, he and other athletes went to local gyms, organizing activities for children, and they talked to student groups.

Abel said, "The organization (under Woods) also organized the celebration of Martin Luther King Day, which had never been celebrated at the college."

As POWER advisor, Abel, who is a nurse instructor, worked closely with the athletes and POWER members in organizing the open gyms and in planning and scheduling the King Day activities on campus.

Robert Green is starting his MA degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition to his work with POWER, Green was Student Government President and a basketball player at IVCC.

Dawud Schabazz is graduating with a BA from St. Joseph College in Indiana. Schabazz was on the football team and the Student Government President while attending IVCC.

Coe Bonner, graduated from SIU with a BA in Criminal Justice. Bonner is currently playing indoor arena football for the Peoria team.
