Supervisor job filled

By Joel Peters

Taking on a job that had been open for a time is not a problem for the new Supervisor of Facilities, Gary K. Johnson.

"I don't look at it as a problem," Johnson said. "I look at it as a challenge."

On March 1 Johnson was appointed to the post that had been open since Larry Rousey, the former supervisor, was named Director of Facilities.

Acknowledging that "there is a vast amount of work that is directed, funneled through the physical plant," he said his 18 years at Jostens in Princeton in a similar position had been good preparation.

As he described it, his duties are "to coordinate and accomplish the day-to-day business requirements of the Physical Plant and support staff."

In his first month here, he said he feels he's had a good first impression with the people who work with him.

"I feel it (campus) is a very active facility with events that are constantly offered to enhance our diversified culture, and with everyone focused towards supporting our vision statement, it makes for a winning team."

A Spring Valley native, Johnson graduated from Hall High School and went on to Eureka College. He has also taken classes at Mid State and at IVCC.

He still lives in Spring Valley, with his wife, Pat, and Josh, one of five boys. Besides his family, Johnson's pastimes include hunting, fishing and training Labrador retrievers.
